He said shopping locally helps local economy.
Frederick, MD – Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot visited Frederick on recently to kick off the “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” campaign, encouraging shoppers to visit local Maryland stores for their holiday gift needs.
Franchot said that shopping locally is becoming more important as out-of state online shopping grows in popularity.
“Sure [online shopping] is convenient,” Franchot said. “But you don’t get anywhere near the customer service, quality of products, or good prices you’re going to get from brick & mortar retail stores.”
Franchot visited Brick & Mortal Mercantile in downtown Frederick on his tour and said they encouraged a traditional shopping experience.
“They explicitly say ‘Get off the internet; come down and enjoy yourselves,'” Franchot said.
Franchot said these businesses are a source of many jobs for Marylanders and local companies give back to the community when they receive support.
“I urge everyone to shop locally,” Franchot said. “… You’ll never see Amazon.com on the back of a little league uniform.”
