HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot spent time in western Maryland today for his annual holiday tour.
Franchot presented an award to the owner of Olympia Candy Kitchen in recognition of the shop's 115 years in business, including 30+ years in Hagerstown.
Franchot also took the time to visit local stores to encourage people to shop locally instead of shopping online or at out-of-state businesses.The owner of the candy store, Tony Pananes, says he feels honored to be one of the local businesses recognized.
Pananes adds, "it's great, it's very gratifying to know that the comptroller picked us out of the other thousand other business in Maryland I feel honored that he did."
