HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Politics and beer are an unlikely and sometimes dangerous pairing, but for craft beer lovers, it was the perfect blend on Thursday.
Comptroller of Maryland Peter Franchot stopped by Antietam Brewery to promote legislation that calls for reforms that would take Maryland from one of the least friendly states for breweries to one of the most.
Franchot said traditional beers like Budweiser and Miller are flat in their sales, and craft beers are growing at a 10 to 15 percent rate, especially among Millennials.
"We have about $700 million in economic activity now. It could be three, four, five times that if the government could just get out of the way of these wonderful breweries,” said Franchot.
Franchot said the reforms have the full support of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
