Tax-Related Information

  • Extension of Filing and Payments for Individuals and Businesses. Comptroller Franchot has extended the filing and payment deadline for individuals from April 15 to July 15. Additionally, the filing and payment deadline for businesses has also been extended to July 15. Business-related taxes (including Sales and Use taxes) that were not collected in March, April, and May are due July 15. Businesses that paid that their March Sales and Use taxes may request a refund by e-mailing

  • Paper Return Processing has now resumed. After briefly suspending paper returns processing to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, paper return processing has now resumed.

  • Taxpayer Services. 10 of the 12 Comptroller regional branch offices are now open by appointment only. Taxpayers may also contact for questions and assistance. For more information, click here.

Information for Businesses

  • Tax Preparation Services are deemed essential under the Governor's Executive Order. Governor Hogan's executive order required the closure of non-essential businesses for the duration of the State of Emergency. Tax preparation and other financial services are deemed essential and can continue to operate.

  • Suspension of Alcohol Off-Premise Consumption Limits. As Chief Alcohol Regulator, Comptroller Franchot temporarily suspended consumption limits for off-premise purchases of alcohol products from Maryland breweries, distilleries, and wineries. Additionally, Comptroller Franchot worked with Governor Hogan to permit Maryland alcohol producers to provide take-out and home delivery services.

  • Alcohol Take-Out, Delivery, and Curbside Sales. The Governor's Executive Order permitted restaurants and bars to sell mixed drink products for off-premise consumption during the duration of the State of Emergency. The Comptroller's Office provided guidance to all 24 local liquor boards on the sealed container requirement.
