Franchot to Campaign for Obama in South Carolina

Annapolis, MD (January 23, 2008) – With South Carolina’s Democratic primary approaching this Saturday, Comptroller Peter Franchot will join a delegation of Marylanders as they travel to the Palmetto State for two days of campaigning on behalf of Senator Barack Obama. Franchot recently joined a growing list of over 125 Maryland elected officials including Congressman Elijah Cummings, Attorney General Doug Gansler and Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon who have endorsed the Illinois Senator for President.
“With so much at stake in this election, I urge voters here in Maryland and across the country to vote for real, progressive change,” said Comptroller Franchot. “Senator Obama has spent his whole life working at the grassroots level to improve people’s lives and I look forward to joining my fellow Marylanders as we work to get his message out to the people of South Carolina.”
During his trip, Franchot will spend this Thursday traveling with Former South Carolina Governor James Hodges, a National Co-Chair for the Senator’s campaign. On Friday, the Comptroller will campaign with members from the Maryland for Obama delegation, including State Senators Lisa Gladden, Verna Jones, Nathaniel McFadden as well as Delegate Curt Anderson.
An Army Veteran once stationed at Fort Jackson, Comptroller Franchot pledged to return to Columbia, South Carolina to campaign for Senator Obama there as well as in Maryland during its lead up to the February 12th primary.
