Tax Free Shopping Coming Soon

Marylanders who want to purchase a new appliance like a refrigerator, washer, dryer or
heat will have a chance to avoid paying taxes on that purchase for a few days this month.

The State Comptroller's Office says Maryland's Tax Free weekend for certain Energy
Star products will be held from February 18th through February 20th.

Comptroller Franchot says the program which has been offered in the past is successful.

"It is good public policy because these items save a lot of energy and so its good for
the environment and good for energy use. It is basically a tax free holiday for Maryland
customers who buy these Energy Star appliances and there are lots of these appliances in the stores," says Franchot.
