Maryland's Top 50 Tax Scofflaws

Submitted by Peter Franchot on March 18, 2010 - 1:47pm.

Today, I am holding two events to announce the names of the 50 worst tax offenders in the State.  This list includes 25 individuals and 25 businesses that owe the State of Maryland almost $8 million!

My "Caught in the Web" program lists the names of these scofflaws on our Web site at www.marylandtaxes.com for six months or until payment has been received or a payment plan set up.

I know that the vast majority of Marylanders are hard-working, honest and pay their fair share in state taxes. This program, however, was created to pursue those who enjoy the many benefits of living in Maryland while their neighbors shoulder the financial burden.

My office is committed to ensuring that everyone pays their fair share, especially in these difficult economic times.

The program has successfully collected over $25 million from delinquent taxpayers since its inception in 2000.
