MD Comptroller Tours Resort Town

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot went door to door checking in on local business owners along the boardwalk Monday. Ocean City's Mayor Rick Meehan filled the tax collector in on the state of affairs along the ocean front.

"As the Chief fiscal officer for the state I want to get around and find out what's going on in the trenches," said Comptroller Peter Franchot.

"Business as far as numbers go is up, our visitor count is way up in Ocean City this past weekend was the largest weekend in June we've ever had," said Mayor Meehan.

About 284,000 beach-goers came to the resort over this past weekend and numbers are expected to be even higher over the July fourth holiday. The comptroller says Ocean City is a luxury everyone can afford.

"It's a great way to get some vacation time over the summer even if you're unable to travel long distances because of the economy," said Franchot.

The tax collector is counting on Ocean City's businesses to bring in the dough. Mayor Meehan says it is his Town's time to shine.

"The focus is on us right now. It's our time of year and I think it's a good sign for the state," said Meehan.
